| Vision
- Yahara House assists persons with
mental illnesses to reshape their destinies by regaining the self-esteem,
confidence, and skills to transcend despair, stigma, injustice, and
isolation and to reclaim their rightful places in society as family
members, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Yahara House believes that community reintegration will not occur if people with mental illnesses are in the community, but not valued by the community. Yahara House is a place for people to begin again, belong, and heal. We welcome people for who they are, celebrate their diversity, recognize their potential, and have expectations for putting their talents to work. At Yahara House members and staff mentor, teach, and support each other so that people can restore themselves in their own way, at their own pace as they forge their own recovery. |
| History - Yahara House began in 1976 as an aftercare program designed to help persons who had lived in psychiatric institutions move back into the community. In the mid 1980s, we became the first clubhouse model in Wisconsin. In 2001, Yahara House was chosen as a national recipient of the Lilly Reintegration Awards. Today, Yahara House is dedicated to advancing cultural competence, community reintegration, and consumer recovery. Yahara House is part of a private, non profit organization, the Mental Health Center of Dane County, Inc. |
| Operations - Yahara House is open 8:30 to 4:30 - Sunday through Friday, with special functions arranged on Saturdays - and is open for EVERY holiday. Members and staff work together at everything. We make decisions about running the clubhouse, its policies, budget, staff, public relations, education, advocacy, and program evaluation. |
